Add or Manage a Till
Type: How-To Module: Cash Till Log Template: v0.5
At a glance
Add a new cash-holding location (register, safe, drop box), rename an existing one, update a threshold as volume changes, or remove a till you no longer use. Every action happens from the Cash Till Log screen.
Before you start
Adding, editing, or deleting tills requires Manager permissions or higher. All tills are shared store-wide, so name them clearly (for example, "Drive Thru Register 2" rather than "DT2") to avoid confusion across shifts.
Threshold values should reflect the minimum cash you expect in that till at any counting point. Set them too low and shortfalls go undetected; set them too high and every count fires a false yellow alert.
Steps
Add a new till
- Open Cash Till Log from the left menu.
- Tap Add Till.
- Enter the Till Name (for example, "Safe" or "Register 4").
- Enter the Threshold Value in dollars.
- Save. The new till appears in the selector dropdown and in the Manage Tills list immediately.
Edit an existing till
- Open Cash Till Log from the left menu.
- Tap Manage Tills. A modal appears listing every till.
- Tap Edit next to the till you want to change.
- Update the Till Name, the Threshold Value, or both.
- Save. Changes apply immediately for everyone.
Delete a till
- Open Cash Till Log from the left menu.
- Tap Manage Tills.
- Tap Delete next to the till you want to remove.
- A confirmation prompt appears. Tap OK to confirm.
The till disappears from the selector dropdown. Historical counts for that till are preserved, but no new counts can be logged against it.
View history for a till
Select the till from the top-left dropdown, then tap Show History. The activity log for that specific till opens, showing past counts and any threshold flags so you can spot recurring shortfalls or reconcile against deposit records.
Common gotchas
Deletions are permanent. For a register that is out of service temporarily, leave it in place instead of deleting. Deletion breaks the tie-back from past counts to the till name.
Threshold edits apply immediately, including retroactively to any count currently on screen. Raising a threshold mid-shift can flip blue indicators to yellow. Time threshold changes for shift transitions when possible.
Till names are shared store-wide. Renaming "Register 1" to "Drive Thru 1" changes it for everyone, including historical references in reports. Be deliberate with renames.
Both Till Name and Threshold Value are required on Add. The Save button stays disabled until both fields have values.
