Duplicate an Existing Checklist
At a glance
Duplicating creates a new checklist with the same tasks, schedule, and settings as an existing one. Use it when you want to build a variant (for example, an AM opening checklist based on the PM opening checklist) or test a new configuration without changing the original. The new checklist starts as an independent copy, so edits to the duplicate do not affect the source.
Before you start
- You need a role with the Manage Checklists permission.
- Identify the source checklist you want to duplicate.
- Decide what you plan to change in the duplicate (name at minimum, and typically the schedule or task list).
- Confirm no one else on your team is in the Checklist Manager, since concurrent edits can overwrite each other.
- Estimated time: two to three minutes for the duplicate itself, plus whatever time you need to customize it.
Steps
- Select Checklists from the left navigation menu, then tap Manage Checklists at the top of the screen.
- In the Active Definitions list, find the checklist you want to duplicate.
- Click Duplicate on that checklist's row. A copy appears in the Active Definitions list with a similar name as the original.
- Expand the new checklist by clicking its expand arrow, then rename it so your team can tell the variant apart from the original.
- Make any other edits the duplicate needs: schedule under Manage Repeat Rules, required permissions, notifications, and individual tasks.
- Click Save at the top of the expanded checklist.
- You should now see both the original and the new checklist in the Active Definitions list. The duplicate will appear in the main Checklists view on its next scheduled instance.

Common gotchas
The duplicate still has the original checklist's name.
Duplicates inherit the source checklist's name exactly or with a minor suffix. If you forget to rename the duplicate, your team will see two checklists with nearly identical names, which is confusing. Always rename right after duplicating.
Store-specific references in the tasks did not update.
Duplicates copy every task word-for-word. If the original had store-specific content ("Clean register 1, 2, and 3"), the duplicate carries that content as-is. Review each task and update anything that is specific to the original's context.
I expected the duplicate to carry over past completion history.
Duplicates start with a clean history. Completion records for the original checklist stay with the original. The duplicate will build its own history starting from its first scheduled instance.
I wanted to copy the checklist to a different store, not just within the same store.
Cross-store checklist copying is not self-serve in the current UI. To copy a checklist from one store to another, submit a support ticket with the source store, the destination store, and the checklist name. Support will copy it for you.
My edits to the duplicate changed the original.
This should not happen in normal use, since duplicates are independent. If it does, it is almost always a multi-device editing conflict: the source checklist was open on another device when you saved the duplicate. Close all other Checklist Manager sessions and try again.

Still stuck
If the duplicate is missing content from the original or is causing unexpected behavior, submit a support ticket and include:
- Your store number.
- The name of the original checklist and the name of the duplicate.
- A screenshot of the Manage Checklists view showing both.
- What you expected to happen versus what happened.
